Ellen
Anderson, the presenter, is the Caring For One Another Executive
Director. Her background is in Christian Science nursing and facility
management. Someone from your area will be her assistant in the
workshop.
The
workshop can be at any location you select or at a branch church
meeting room.
The
workshop is a multi-church event. Invitational flyers and desk announcements
are sent to the immediate area's CS congregations at least a month
in advance. The best setting is a church's Sunday School room. The
best time is a Saturday or Sunday. The workshop takes about 90 minutes.
The
agenda includes introductory info on Caring for One Another followed
by the importance of confidentiality. Then comes the skit, a composite
of many visiting scenarios Caring For One Another has encountered.
The presenter will need another individual to volunteer to help
with the skit, someone who is familiar with making home visits.
The workshop concludes with the presenter explaining a a step-by-step
check list that becomes a quick reference guide to be kept in the
glove box of the car.
WHAT
ARE OTHERS SAYING ABOUT
THE "ART OF VISITING" WORKSHOPS?
"The
metaphysics were very helpful and the content was useful."
Church member
"Everything
presented filled the bill. Very grassroots and can easily be translated
to my Care Committee work." Workshop Attendee
"The
most effective part was the role-playing. Divine metaphysics supported
the whole activity." Care Companion
"The
time is come for doing something about caring for other Christian
Scientists. I could tell you of many instances where this type of
thing would have been a very great help. We need information."
Executive Board Member
"Caring
For One Another. Inc. has identified a need in our movement and
is filling it. I think you are on track." Church Member
"I love the 'promise" of this effort. Now-to bring Caring
For One Another into a real working network!" Second Reader
"The
most helpful thing was the demonstrations! (i.e., role-playing and
skits). This helps me know better how to be the first line of care."
Care Committee Member
"I
feel all Christian Scientists should know about Caring FOA."
Care Companion
"When
I was asked to come to this workshop, I wasn't thrilled. I had just
taken on two new positions at church and I was trying to figure
out which jobs I could pass off onto someone else. Suddenly I stopped
that kind of thinking and asked God to lead me in the way that I
should go and not necessarily what I thought I wanted to do. Almost
immediately the thought came that this kind of (workshop) might
come in handy with my own family. My husband's mother lives with
us and has lived with us for 20 years. She's not a CS but she's
a dear friend and I hope if the time should come that I need to
assist her in more personal ways, that I will feel more prepared.
I'm sure this workshop will help give me the knowledge that I might
need at that time." Care Committee Member
"Information
on what to be aware of in evaluating the need is the key!"
Workshop Attendee
"The
workshop information was very well presented and clear. The information
will better my work with my clients. Today I learned to always listen
to understand the client's needs." Care Companion
"Caring
FOA has made me more aware of ways to reach out and helped me uncover
needs of others that have solutions. The role-playing is good and
valuable." Care Committee Chair
